چکیده

Si nanocrystals embedded in SiO2 doped with P and Au at concentrations in the range of 1 10–3 10 cm 3 exhibit photoluminescence quenching. Upon increasing the Au concentration, a gradual decrease in nanocrystal photoluminescence intensity is observed. Using a statistical model for luminescence quenching, we derive a typical radius of 3 nm for nanocrystals luminescing around 800 nm. Au doping also leads to a luminescence lifetime reduction, which is attributed to energy transfer between adjacent Si nanocrystals, possibly mediated by the presence of Au in the form of ions or nanocrystals. Doping with P at concentrations up to 3 10 cm 3 leads to a luminescence enhancement, most likely due to passivation of the nanocrystal–SiO2 interfaces. Upon further P doping the nanocrystal luminescence gradually decreases, with little change in luminescence lifetime. r 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 78.67.Bf; 78.67.Hc; 68.55.Ln

Exciton–erbium interactions in Si nanocrystal-doped SiO2

The presence of silicon nanocrystals in Er doped SiO2 can enhance the effective Er optical absorption cross section by several orders of magnitude due to a strong coupling between quantum confined excitons and Er. This article studies the fundamental processes that determine the potential of Si nanocrystals as sensitizers for use in Er doped waveguide amplifiers or lasers. Silicon nanocrystals ...

Enhanced radiative emission rate and quantum efficiency in coupled silicon nanocrystal-nanostructured gold emitters.

We report local-field-enhanced light emission from silicon nanocrystals close to a film of nanoporous gold. We resolve photoluminescence as the gold-Si nanocrystal separation distance is varied between 0 and 20 nm and observe a fourfold luminescence intensity enhancement concomitant with increases in the coupled silicon nanocrystal/nanoporous gold absorbance cross section and radiative decay ra...

Free and bound excitonic effects in Al0.5Ga0.5N/Al0.35Ga0.65N MQWs with different Si-doping levels in the well layers

Free exciton (FX) and bound exciton (BX) in Al0.5Ga0.5N/Al0.35Ga0.65N multiple quantum wells (MQWs) with different Si-doping levels in the well layers are investigated by photoluminescence (PL) spectra. Low temperature (10 K) PL spectra identify a large binding energy of 87.4 meV for the BX in undoped sample, and 63.6 meV for the BX in Si-doped (2 × 10(18 ) cm(-3)) sample. They are attributed t...

Photoluminescence quenching in gold - MoS2 hybrid nanoflakes

Achieving tunability of two dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) functions calls for the introduction of hybrid 2D materials by means of localized interactions with zero dimensional (0D) materials. A metal-semiconductor interface, as in gold (Au) - molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), is of great interest from the standpoint of fundamental science as it constitutes an outstanding pl...

Photoluminescence of Erbium-doped Silica-based Waveguide Film via Flame Hydrolysis Deposition and Aerosol Doping

Silica based waveguides on Si fabricated by flame hydrolysis deposition were doped with erbium ions using an aerosol doping technique, and co-doped with GeO2, P2O5 and B2O3. Erbium doping levels in the films were dependent on the nebulized solution concentration and delivery rate of the aerosol to the torch. The erbium solution concentration was varied from 4 to 8 wt%. The refractive index was ...
